Have your say in Victoria’s future by filling out the 2024 Vital Signs citizen survey

Your opinions are vital. Now in its 19th year, Victoria’s  2024 Vital Signs citizen survey is officially open for your feedback.

Are you nervous about the costs of housing and food in Greater Victoria or the southern gulf islands? Are you concerned about finding proper medical care, should you need it? Do you want to preserve our region’s climate, parks and recreation spaces? You can have your say!

Vital Signs — an annual community check-up conducted by the Victoria Foundation — hosts a citizen survey every year that measures our region’s vitality, identifying concerns and supporting action on issues that are critical to a higher quality of life.

This year, it asks: What will Victoria look like for your grandkids and future generations?

Participants are asked a series of questions relating to  12 ‘vital signs,’ such as housing, safety, health and wellness, belonging and engagement, among others.

“Victoria’s Vital Signs provides the community with information that sparks action to improve our region,” said Sandra Richardson, Victoria Foundation CEO.

“There are a significant amount of complex and integrated challenges in our community, and we hope the theme for 2024 and information collected will help us identify solutions for our region to help our grandkids and future generations,” she said.

Examples of previous survey questions include, “How would you rate your ability to find suitable employment?” and “How often do you feel uncomfortable or out of place because of your religion, ethnicity, skin colour, culture, race, language, accent, disability, gender identity and/or sexual orientation?”

Covering a wide range of topics, the survey aims to gather data needed to inform citizens on Victoria’s vitality. The results are compiled into Victoria’s annual Vital Signs report — a democratic tool released in the fall that local leaders and decision-makers can use to improve the health of our community — not just for today, but for decades to come.

The survey is officially open and will run until 12pm on Friday, May 21, 2024. Upon completion, every participant will be given  a chance to win one of three Country Grocer gift cards worth $100 each. Participants can double their chances to win by completing the long version of the survey, which will take only 10-15 minutes to complete.

Victoria’s 2024 Vital Signs is proudly sponsored by Coast Capital.

A Certified B Corporation and member-owned financial cooperative, Coast Capital invests up to 10% of its earnings into local communities, and has donated almost $91 million since 2000 to its partners. This allows important projects like Victoria’s Vital Signs to run each year.

Are you a citizen in Greater Victoria or on the southern gulf islands? Are you interested in helping your community thrive? Don’t delay. Fill out Victoria’s 2024 Vital Signs citizen survey today.
