Capital Daily readers raise nearly $50,000 in one week for Victoria families

Victoria, you did it again.

In our fourth annual holiday fundraising drive, we asked Capital Daily readers to give what they could for local families in need, to benefit Saanich Neighbourhood Place.

The community answered, raising over $46,000 in total contributions.

A big thank you to our matching donors, Tiny Foundation and Lochside Software, who helped multiply reader donations.

“We are so grateful to the Capital Daily readers and donors who were able to support this campaign on behalf of families we see at Saanich Neighbourhood Place,” said Corinne Hilton, Executive Director of SNP. “We look forward to being able to launch inclusive childcare options this year, and continuing to support folks with other services and resources.”

Funds raised will support three key areas and programs:

1. Inclusive childcare: ensuring little ones with diverse needs are able to attend quality childcare programs with the support and resources they need to succeed, paving the way for better outcomes as they go through school and life.

2. Parent education and support programs: addressing ongoing mental health and wellness needs among parents and caregivers, helping families make connections and build supportive networks and enabling them to take better care of themselves and their children and youth.

3. Food equity services: ensuring we can continue to provide meals and snacks, food resources and education, and community pantry options for families and individuals.

“We are so appreciative of the community for their support of Saanich Neighbourhood Place during the recent Capital Daily Holiday Campaign,” said Jacquelin Green, Family Services Manager at SNP. “Some of the dollars raised will be used to fund our ‘Empowering Moms’ program.”

“Empowering Moms was a real lifeline for me as a mother – I was able to come and meet other moms, and feel cared for while learning ways to take care of myself so I can be the best parent possible,” said one participant.

While the drive is over, Saanich Neighbourhood Place can always use donations, no matter the size. Learn more about giving to SNP here.

Since starting in 2020, the four Capital Daily holiday fundraisers have raised nearly half a million dollars for local families. We’re excited to be back again later this year with our fifth fundraising drive!
