Sarah Krzymowski spent her 40th birthday in a sea of red, hanging on every shot as Canada opened the 2026 World Cup at the Market Square watch party on Friday.

Canada's 1-1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina earned the country its first-ever World Cup point, ending a six-game losing streak that stretched back to 1986. The Market Square crowd erupted when the equalizer landed late in the second half.

The night before, hundreds of green-clad Mexico fans packed Station Avenue in Langford for the tournament's opening match against South Africa. The pedestrian-only stretch, dubbed Langford United, runs food trucks, a beer garden and a family fun zone through to the final.

Downtown's Market Square parties carry on alongside ten participating bars and pubs under the Downtown Victoria Business Association banner. Canada plays Qatar at B.C. Place on Thursday in what's now a must-win group game.

West Shore RCMP hunt a man in a mullet after a girl was assaulted at a Langford bus stop

A girl was standing at a bus stop near Jacklin Road and Station Avenue on Tuesday afternoon when a man she didn't know struck up a short conversation, then sexually assaulted her and walked off.

West Shore RCMP weren't told about the attack until Thursday, two days later. Investigators are now canvassing the area and asking anyone who was nearby between noon and 4 p.m. on June 9 to check dashcam and home-surveillance footage.

Police describe the man as 30 to 35, about five-foot-eight, with brown mullet-style hair with lighter ends and short facial hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt, black pants with bright green numbers on each knee, black running shoes, and an orange wristband. No similar reports have come in.

The girl was not physically hurt, but investigators say the emotional toll of sexual violence is real, and finding the man is their priority. Anyone with information can call West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
