Sarah Krzymowski spent her 40th birthday in a sea of red, hanging on every shot as Canada opened the 2026 World Cup at the Market Square watch party on Friday.
Canada's 1-1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina earned the country its first-ever World Cup point, ending a six-game losing streak that stretched back to 1986. The Market Square crowd erupted when the equalizer landed late in the second half.
The night before, hundreds of green-clad Mexico fans packed Station Avenue in Langford for the tournament's opening match against South Africa. The pedestrian-only stretch, dubbed Langford United, runs food trucks, a beer garden and a family fun zone through to the final.
Downtown's Market Square parties carry on alongside ten participating bars and pubs under the Downtown Victoria Business Association banner. Canada plays Qatar at B.C. Place on Thursday in what's now a must-win group game.
